Rack Hays

Stylish converted former cider barn and dairy with cool and calming interior, ideal for a family getaway. Warm up by the cosy wood burner after a long walk in the surrounding countryside.

Rack Hays was the first barn converted at Tuck Mill and the first job was to clear out the previous occupants, the sheep and various other smaller four legged friends!

From day one we were determined that it should be somewhere that we would be happy to stay ourselves and from the oak look porcelain flooring with underfloor heating to the indoor/outdoor seating area we were delighted with the completed home.

A pathway through a private garden leads you to the barn. On entering the property, you are met by an entrance hallway, with WC, which leads into a bright and airy open-plan kitchen/diner. The stylish kitchen area is well-equipped with luxury appliances plus an electric range style oven and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave. A useful utility room houses a washer/dryer. Leading off from the kitchen area is an inviting lounge with wood burner, TV and DVD, the perfect place to unwind after a day spent exploring. Adjacent to here is a spacious super-king-size bedroom with a zip-and-link bed (which can be made into a twin on request) with en-suite shower and WC. Rising from the hallway is a staircase, leading you to a king-size bedroom with en-suite shower and WC. A further king-size bedroom is also on this floor, along with a twin bedroom. A contemporary bathroom completes the first floor, with a bath, shower and WC.

Venturing outside from the hallway, you will find a generous enclosed garden, with patio area, garden furniture and BBQ. Located directly outside of the barn, it’s the perfect spot for enjoying a meal outdoors. To the rear of the property, accessed via the kitchen, there is a communal courtyard shared with one other property. Ample off-road parking can be found within the yard surrounding the property.

Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.

We had our summer holiday staying in Rack Hays and it was absolutely fantastic. This is definitely “high-end” self catering accommodation and we had plenty of room for 6 adults and 2 kids...fortunately we managed to get our holiday in before the “Rule of 6” kicked in. Jon and Libby are superb hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Our grandson absolutely loved the tractor rides and we all loved the cream teas and watching the evening cricket matches.
Tuck Mills is a haven from the hustle and bustle of city life and we’re definitely booking for next year! 5🌟

Our second stay at Tuck Mill and it was better than the first. Brilliant place to stay, the adults loved it as much as the children! Couldn't recommend enough 🙂

Self catering holiday accommodation at it's very best. Superb barn conversion on a working farm. No attention to detail spared. Hosts Libby and Jon could not have been more welcoming or helpful. So much to do on site for the whole family whether you want to be active or just chill and a lovely part of the world to get out and explore. Would have no hesitation in returning for another visit, which we hope to do, or thoroughly recommending to others.

We stayed in Tallet. The barn conversion has been done beautifully with all the facilities you could want. The living area upstairs is the whole length of the building with floor to ceiling windows, wooden floors, wooden beams. It is very cozy and homely. The kitchen is big and very well equipped.

Great for a relaxing retreat from urban life.

The hosts were very friendly and informative.

Highly recommended.

Our stay in Tallet was absolutely perfect. Jon and Libby were so welcoming, the converted barns were stunning inside, homely, clean and comfortable, and the surrounding countryside beautifully quiet and relaxing. We also discovered, from a visit to the friendly local shop, that both Tallet and Rack Hays at Tuck Mill are well-known and highly regarded as the best holiday accomodation in the area. We will most certainly be back!

This is the second time we have been to Tuckmill Barns. We have stayed at both properties, both equally stunning in different ways. We usually visit in the autumn with our parents and children, a perfect wind down to the year with stunning countryside on the doorstep and some lovely seaside towns to visit for some bracing sea air. We love walking around the copse and saying hello to the animals. Rack Hays and Tallet are just stunning properties with quality fixtures and fittings, and are fully equipt should you want to prepare a meal. The hospitality is great, with someone always on hand if you need anything. Oh and the fresh scones are such a lovely touch and totally yummy. Couldn’t ask for more.

We are just back from the most fantastic weekend at Tuck Mill Barns! This was our second stay at Tallet, and it didn’t disappoint! Jon and Libby were so welcoming and we got to experience every aspect of a busy lambing weekend. All the family were able to assist on the farm, the children got to bottle feed the lambs and we all got to have the magical experience of lambing, in all its natural glory! The care and attention Jon and Libby show all their guests is what makes a stay at Tuck Mill Barns so good. We will definitely be booking again and would recommend it to everyone looking for a lovely break in the beautiful Devon countryside.
